Murphy Band 2008 Summer Rehearsal Schedule:
Rookie camp. This is a series of rehearsals for the new members of the Murphy Band. It will cover playing fundamentals required to be successful in the band program as well as other important aspects. There will be a one-hour lunch break daily at 12:00 noon. The band room will be open during the lunch break. Students may either bring their lunches (there are soft drink machines on campus) or, if you prefer, walk to several fast food outlets near the school. The students will be exposed to all of the playing skills necessary to perform with the Murphy Band during this Rookie Camp. Also there will be an audition time for students who have not been part of the Mobile County All- County Honor Band (students who have been members of the Honor Band are automatically part of the Murphy Band.)
The entire returning drum line and pit will need to report to Rookie camp, as that is when we will do the placement auditions.
The schedule for Rookie Camp will be as follows:
Tuesday, May 27-Friday, May 30 (8:00AM-4:00PM)
There will be an orientation meeting for all incoming parents on Thursday, May 29 at 7:00PM.
Students selected for the Drum Line will have an additional week of camp June 2 thru June 6 (8:00 AM-4:00PM)
Workouts. Workouts are rehearsals that are held in order that the students can keep their playing and marching skills up. We will review all of the marching and playing fundamentals covered in Rookie Camp plus work on the field show music for the coming marching season. If you are in town, not scheduled to work, etc., we want you to come to the workouts. If you are on vacation, etc., that is fine. There is no penalty for missing one or more workouts.

Band Camp. Band camp is a series of required rehearsals. If you are going to march in the show this fall, you must attend all band camp rehearsals. If you miss a rehearsal, you lose your place in the show.

After School Rehearsals.
Band meets as a regular scheduled class during fourth block. The marching band will rehearse after school according to the following schedule until the last marching contest is finished, which is usually around the middle of October.
