Murphy Band 2010 Summer Rehearsal Schedule:
Color Guard Auditions: The lessons will be held May 4, May 6, and May 11. The tryouts themselves will be on May 13. All sessions will run from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. There is no tryout fee.
Drum Camp: Tuesday, June 1-Friday June 4 and Monday June 7-Friday June 11 (8:00 AM -4:00 PM)
All new and returning percussionists should report to camp for auditioning and placement of the drum line (Battery). There will be a lunch break from 12:00-1:00 daily. Note that the first week of drum line camp is also Rookie Camp.
Rookie Camp: This is a series of rehearsals for the new members of the Murphy Band (woodwind, brass, percussion, color guard). It will cover the fundamentals required to be successful in the band program as well as other important aspects. There will be a one-hour lunch break daily at 12:00 noon. The band room will be open during the lunch break. Students may either bring their lunches (there are soft drink machines on campus) or, if you prefer, walk to several fast food outlets near the school. The woodwind, brass, and percussion students will be exposed to all of the playing skills necessary to perform with the Murphy Band during this Rookie Camp. Also there will be an audition time for students who have not been part of the Mobile County All- County Honor Band (students who have been members of the Honor Band are automatically part of the Murphy Band.)
All new brass, woodwind, percussion, and color guard members should report to Rookie Camp. If there are pre-existing conflicts, please contact us at the band room so other arrangements can be made.
The schedule for Rookie Camp will be as follows:
Tuesday June 1-Friday, June 4 (8:00AM-4:00PM)
There will be an orientation meeting for all incoming parents on Thursday, June 3 at 7:00PM.
Workouts: Workouts are rehearsals that are held in order that the students can keep their playing and marching skills up. We will review all of the marching and playing fundamentals covered in Rookie Camp plus work on the field show music for the coming marching season. If you are in town, not scheduled to work, etc., we want you to come to the workouts. If you are on vacation, at work, etc., that is fine. There is no penalty for missing one or more workouts.

After School Rehearsals:
Band meets as a regular scheduled class during fourth block. The marching band will rehearse after school according to the following schedule until the last marching contest is finished, which is usually around the middle of October.
