Due to inclement weather
LEADERSHIP SECTIONALS scheduled for tomorrow (July 22) are canceled due to a meeting. Regular instrumental sectionals are still scheduled as listed on the website but that might change.
Please be patient as we are still trying to work out the plan for the school year. Be sure to check the website often for notices or changes.
The following are the current guidelines and dates for Band Camp 2020. If your student is only doing Virtual School this year and will not be attending Band Camp, please email Mr. White at firstname.lastname@example.org ASAP so he can play accordingly. Check murphyband.com regularly as procedures and dates could change at any point. Please note that student may only come during their designated time and parents are NOT allowed into the building.
Required items for band camp:
Students will not be allowed to keep anything in the band room during camp. All instruments/music/water bottles/clothes/etc. must be taken home after each rehearsal. Lockers will NOT be available to students during band camp.

Every year, the Murphy High School Band gives three awards to senior band members:
Most Improved Band Member is the award given to a senior who had the most growth as a musician over their four years in the MHS Band.
The John Philip Sousa Award is an internationally-recognized award that "recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication" to music and band.
The final award is the E.B. Coleman Scholarship, named after a former band director at MHS. This $1000 scholarship is given to the student to shows leadership, musicianship, and passion for band. This year, there are two scholarship winners, who will each receive a $1000 scholarship.

Band camp updates (as of June 29, 2020)
The following message is to update parents and students about current guidelines and plans for band camp. These guidelines and plans may change AT ANY POINT and WILL LIKELY change before Band Camp starts, so please watch frequently for any updates. Please email Mr. White (email@example.com) with any questions.
The current dates and times for Band Camp are July 27-31 and August 3-7, from 8:00am-11:30am and 12:30pm-4:00pm. Due to new regulations, only a limited amount of students will be allowed at a time in the band facilities. Because of this, I am working on a schedule to figure out when each section will come to campus. This will be released later this week.
Students MUST complete the AHSAA Physical, the MCPSS Fine Arts COVID Form, MHS Medical Form, and MHS Release Form before they can come to band camp (all forms are attached below). They MUST bring ALL forms with them the first day of band camp.
Each day, students will get their temperature taken before walking in the band room. If it is greater than 100.4° F, they will be sent home. Parents will need to check their child's temperature before leaving home to ensure it is below 100.4° F. If it is higher, the student needs to stay home and email Mr. White immediately. Missing Band Camp will not negatively affect students. If a parent wishes to keep a student home, please email Mr. White so he is aware. Students may video meet with Mr. White for private lessons to catch up.
Thank you for your flexibility and patience during this time. We are doing everything we can to make this year as normal as possible. Please make sure your student is signed up for band by going to murphyband.com, click on “Sign up for band”, then click “Registration”. As I continue to get regular updates and changes, I will send out new updates through murphyband.com and remind.com.
