Winter COncert 2020

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas everyone!

We intended to share our digital Winter Concert with you in video format, but in typical 2020 news, there were irreparable technical issues. Due to copyright laws, the video will only be posted for a few days. I am so proud of the work that our students put in this semester. Please enjoy the audio recordings of our concert and have a safe and wonderful holiday break.

Football  game  updates  for  tomorrow  (Oct. 15)

The following are updates for tomorrow's football game. Please email Mr. White (alexwhite@mcpss.com) with any questions. Only students who have participated in physical band rehearsals and have completed all required forms are allowed to attend.
  • Drop off: 5:30pm at Ladd Peebles Stadium; Band Chaperones will be in the parking lot to take student temperatures before they can exit the vehicle and enter the stadium. Students will need to leave their instrument cases in their vehicles and only bring the instrument and sheet music inside. No outside food/drink will be allowed in the stadium. EVERYONE must go through metal detectors and security before entering the stadium. 
  • Tickets: Parents wishing to attend the game must purchase a ticket at the link below and search for the Murphy High School vs. Daphne game. The cost of the ticket includes parking.

  • Uniform:
    • ​​Shirt - wear their issued 2020 Murphy Band t-shirt
    • School uniform shorts/pants/shirt (down to your fingertips)
    • Tennis shoes with socks
    • Face mask (worn correctly) - 2020 Murphy Band issued
  • Cell phones: it is understood that students need cell phones to alert parents when the game is finished; however, the phones do not need to be out during the games. The MHS Band has the right to take up phones during the game if students are using them.
  • Senior Night: students may dress up for senior night and change into their band clothes after the senior night event, which will take place before the game begins.

Hello all!

Next week, we will be having rehearsal Monday from 3:30pm-5:30pm, as well as Wednesday from 3:30pm-5:30pm. Our football game will be Friday at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The call time for the game will be posted next week. Email Mr. White (alexwhite@mcpss.com) if you have any questions.

Football Updates (August 21)

Football Plans (as of August 21) 


As of today (August 21st), we have been given clearance to participate in select games, starting with Murphy vs. Davidson on September 4th at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The following update has many details, so please read carefully and watch the attached video for clarification. I am still getting updates daily, and I do not have all the answers yet, so I will send more updates before September 4th with further information. 


Health Information:
  • Before students attend any rehearsals or games, they must have turned in their four required forms (PDFs are attached at the bottom of the update). 
    • AHSAA Physical 
    • MCPSS Fine Arts COVID Form 
    • MHS Medical Form 
    • MHS Release Form 
  • Students will ALWAYS have to wear a mask unless specifically told otherwise by Mr. White. 
  • Students will have their temperature checked before each event. 
  • Water will NOT be provided at rehearsals and water fountains are turned off, please make sure students bring water with them to all rehearsals. Sharing water will not be allowed. I am still working to see if I can provide water at games. 
  • Failure to follow social distancing and health guidelines will result in removal of student from rehearsals and games. 

Rehearsals:

  • Rehearsals will begin next week (see attached schedule below). 
  • Rehearsals will take place both inside and outside on campus, so dress accordingly. All students will be socially distanced. 
  • Students must participate in weekly rehearsal to participate in that week’s game. 
  • Rehearsal Schedule 
    • August 25 and 27
      • ​9:30am – 12:00pm
    • September 1
      • ​3:30pm – 5:30pm
    • Starting September 7, every Monday until the end of football season 
      • 3:30pm – 5:30pm 
Games:

  • Drop-Off and Parking 
    • Students will need be dropped off at Ladd-Peebles stadium on game days; we will not be taking buses to games. Ticket and parking information will be released when I get more information. For now, plan on have students dropped off around 5:30pm with their instruments, leaving cases in your car. For students with large instruments they cannot transport themselves, please email Mr. White. 
  • Attire 
    • Students will not be wearing traditional uniforms; they will instead wear khaki school-uniform pants or shorts. We are currently working on t-shirt plans and will have an update soon. 
  • Stands 
    • Students will be in a modified band area in the stands, socially distanced. Wind players will be allowed to pull down masks only when playing; percussion and color guard will wear masks at all times.  
    • Students will be given individual music packets so they do not have to pass around flip folders like they normally would. Students are encouraged to purchase flip folders on their own (They are usually around $6 at Andy’s Music). 
    • Once we are in the stadium, we cannot leave. This means students must stay the whole game if they attend. 
  • Field show 
    • Students will play a half time show on the field. My goal is to livestream shows so people at home can watch online. 
  • Post-Game 
    • Students will need to get picked up after the game in the same area they were dropped off.

LEADERSHIP SECTIONALS scheduled for tomorrow (July 22) are canceled due to a meeting. Regular instrumental sectionals are still scheduled as listed on the website but that might change.
Please be patient as we are still trying to work out the plan for the school year. Be sure to check the website often for notices or changes.

Band Camp Updates (as of July 15)

The following are the current guidelines and dates for Band Camp 2020. If your student is only doing Virtual School this year and will not be attending Band Camp, please email Mr. White at alexwhite@mcpss.com ASAP so he can play accordingly. Check murphyband.com regularly as procedures and dates could change at any point. Please note that student may only come during their designated time and parents are NOT allowed into the building.

Required items for band camp:
  • Face mask
  • Four required forms (attached below)
    • AHSAA Physical
    • MCPSS Fine Arts COVID Form
    • MHS Medical Form
    • MHS Release Form
  • Instrument (if you do not have one, please email Mr. White - alexwhite@mcpss.com)
  • Shoes appropriate for marching (no fllip-flops, high-top shoes, etc.)
  • Water (due to new regulations, water fountains and jugs will NOT be available to students; however the band will not be outside very long each day)

Students will not be allowed to keep anything in the band room during camp. All instruments/music/water bottles/clothes/etc. must be taken home after each rehearsal. Lockers will NOT be available to students during band camp.

    • 8:00am-11:00am – Saxophone & Bass-Clarinet Sectional
